DRUG FREE COMMUNITIES

The Southeast Missouri Drug Free Communities Coalition was founded in October, 2005, to change community norms in the counties of Scott, New Madrid, Mississippi.  The coalition addresses drug and alcohol issues bringing people and resources to the table and providing consistent messages over time. One of the first public awareness campaigns was conducted in April and May, 2007, by "Moms on a Mission", drawing attention to underage drinking. "Parents Who Host Lost The Most" carries the message that parents who host underage drinking parties will suffer legal consequences.  Over 600 yard signs were distributed throughout the three counties with follow up newspaper ads inviting people to join the coalition.
